The Standard
Jason BlevinsShare
There’s a difference between a goal and a standard. A goal is something you chase. A standard is something you live. Goals change. Standards don’t. At Texas 96, we don’t just set goals. We establish standards. We don’t say:
- “Let’s try hard.”
- “Let’s be positive.”
- “Let’s compete today.”
We say:
- We compete every rep.
- We speak life.
- We finish what we start.
- We represent something bigger than ourselves.
That’s the standard.
On the Field
Standards show up when:
- It’s 98 degrees and practice is still sharp.
- We go 0–3 but never drop our heads.
- We’re up 6 runs and still run out every ground ball.
- We’re down 4 and still believe.
Anyone can play hard when it’s easy. Standards show up when it’s hard.
The scoreboard doesn’t define us. Our standard does.
Off the Field
Standards don’t stay at the park. They follow you into:
- Classrooms
- Hallways
- Group chats
- Homes
Character is what you do when no coach is watching. We don’t just build athletes. We build young men and women who carry themselves differently.
Not perfect. But accountable.
Not loud. But confident.
Not entitled. But grateful.
The Biblical Standard
Scripture doesn’t call us to occasional effort.
“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.” - Colossians 3:23 (NASB)
Whatever you do.
Not just tournament weekends.
Not just when scouts are watching.
Not just when your name is called.
Whatever you do.
God’s standard isn’t based on performance — It’s based on faithfulness.
Dugout Truth
You don’t rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your standards.
So the question isn’t:
“Did we win?”
The real question is:
“Did we uphold the standard?”
3 Ways to Raise Your Standard This Week
- Finish Every Drill – Don’t coast through reps.
- Speak Life – Encourage before you criticize.
- Own Mistakes Quickly – No excuses. Just growth.
Final Word
Championships come and go. But culture lasts. And culture is built by standards — not speeches.
Texas 96 doesn’t chase hype.
We build a standard.
And we live it.
