Reflect

Before We Build

Before a new season begins, before goals are set and plans are made, there is an invitation to pause.

Reflection isn’t about regret. It isn’t about replaying mistakes or measuring ourselves against others. Reflection is about alignment. Before anything strong is built, the ground must be examined. Before we move forward, we take an honest look at where we are.

In sports, reflection happens naturally. A season ends, film is reviewed, adjustments are made. Not to shame the athlete—but to prepare them. Life works the same way. Faith works the same way.

The new year doesn’t require rushing. It invites clarity.

Scripture

“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.”
— 2 Corinthians 13:5

This verse isn’t a warning—it’s a gift. God invites us to look inward, not with judgment, but with truth and grace. Reflection helps us notice what strengthened us, what stretched us, and where God was present even when we didn’t recognize it at the time.

A Moment from the Field

There’s a quiet moment that happens after the last out of a season. The field clears. The noise fades. Equipment gets packed away. It’s often in that stillness—when there’s no scoreboard pressure—that the most honest conversations happen.

Reflection lives in that space.

Not everything needs to be fixed immediately. Some things simply need to be seen.

Questions for Reflection

Take a moment with these—alone, as a family, or together as a team:

  • What went well in the last season of my life?
  • Where did I feel stretched, uncertain, or challenged?
  • What might God be inviting me to notice before moving forward?

There’s no rush to answer. Reflection works best when it’s unforced.

A Prayer

Father, help us slow down long enough to see clearly. Give us eyes to notice where You were present, and hearts open to where You are leading us next. We trust You with what has been—and with what’s ahead. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Looking Ahead

Reflection clears the ground so a strong foundation can be built.
