Commitment > Emotion
Jason BlevinsShare
Emotion is loud. Commitment is quiet. Emotion feels strong in the moment. Commitment stays when the moment fades. Anyone can be emotional:
- After a big win.
- After a home run.
- After a great practice.
But commitment? Commitment shows up:
- When you’re tired.
- When you’re sore.
- When you struck out twice already.
- When you don’t feel like it.
Emotion reacts. Commitment decides.
On the Field
Commitment looks like:
- Showing up early.
- Staying late.
- Finishing conditioning.
- Running out routine ground balls.
- Competing even when you’re 0–3.
It’s easy to be emotional when you’re playing well. It’s powerful to be committed when you’re not. The best teams don’t rely on hype. They rely on habits. And habits are built on commitment.
Off the Field
Commitment doesn’t stop at the foul line. It shows up in:
- Your prayer life.
- Your classroom effort.
- Your friendships.
- Your speech.
- Your integrity.
Feelings fluctuate. Faithfulness doesn’t.
“Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” - Galatians 6:9 (NASB)
Commitment means you don’t quit just because you don’t feel inspired. It means you stay when it would be easier to leave. It means you obey when it would be easier to drift.
Dugout Truth
Motivation starts things. Commitment finishes them.

Final Word

Emotion fades.
Commitment builds.
