Battles: Off the Field

Jason Blevins

Not all battles are loud.

Pray In.

“He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, ‘Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.’ An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.” — Luke 22:41–43 (NIV)

The Reflection

Not all battles are loud. Some are carried quietly — stress no one sees, doubts we don’t talk about, fears that surface when life slows down. These battles don’t come with a scoreboard, but they shape us just as deeply as anything that happens in public. Battles off the field often reveal what — and who — we turn to when the pressure is internal. Jesus understands these kinds of battles. He faced:

  • Jealousy from others
  • Ridicule from people close to Him
  • Insults from strangers
  • Temptation in moments of weakness

When the weight became heavy, Jesus didn’t escape the moment — He went to the Father. Off the field, our battles show up in everyday life:

  • Feeling overwhelmed or misunderstood
  • Wrestling with temptation
  • Carrying anxiety, fear, or disappointment
  • Waiting on answers that don’t come quickly

These moments test our trust and shape our character.

How Jesus Walks With Us in Our Battles

Scripture shows us that Jesus is not distant from our struggles.

He battles for us: Jesus intercedes on our behalf. We are never fighting alone.

He battles with us: He understands pain, pressure, and temptation because He has walked through them Himself.

He battles through us: The battles we endure can strengthen others. God often uses our hardest seasons to encourage someone else later.

No battle is wasted when placed in God’s hands.

The 3 P’s for Battling Well

When life feels heavy, return to these anchors:

  1. Prayer: Prayer keeps us connected to God when answers aren’t immediate. It reminds us that we are heard.
  2. People: God often provides strength through community. Trusted friends, family, and mentors matter.
  3. Presence: Time spent with God restores peace and perspective. His presence renews strength when ours feels gone.

Take It With You

  • Battles don’t mean you’re failing.
  • Struggles often shape us more than success.
  • You are not alone, even when the fight feels quiet.
  • God is present, working, and strengthening you.

Stay faithful. Stay connected. Keep trusting.

Pray Out.
