God is greater than our ups and downs…
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8
Softball is full of ups and downs. One moment, you’re celebrating an amazing play; the next, you might be frustrated by a mistake. Life is the same way—it has its victories and its setbacks. But no matter what, there’s one truth we can hold onto: God is greater than all of it. He’s constant, unchanging, and always faithful, no matter what happens on the field or in our lives.
How do you typically respond to wins and losses—both in the game and in life?
Do you see God’s hand in both moments?
God Is Constant in a Changing World
Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that while everything around us may shift—our performance, our emotions, even our circumstances—Jesus never changes. When you’re riding the high of a win, He’s there. When you’re struggling with a tough loss, He’s there too. His love and presence don’t depend on how well you perform; they’re steady through every season.
Your Worth Comes from God, Not the Game. In softball, it’s easy to tie your identity to your stats or the scoreboard. But God doesn’t measure you by wins and losses. Your value comes from being His child. He loves you the same in victory and in defeat. When you embrace that truth, you can play with freedom, knowing your worth doesn’t depend on the game’s outcome.
When you think about your worth, is it more tied to your performance in softball or your identity as a child of God? Why?
So how do we respond to this truth? When you’re on a high, take a moment to thank God for His blessings. When you’re facing a low, ask Him for strength and trust that He’s working through it. And whether you’re winning or losing, remember to reflect His love and faithfulness to your teammates.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being constant and unchanging, no matter what happens in life or on the field. Help us to trust You in every moment—whether in victory or defeat. Teach us to find our identity in You and to play with joy and gratitude, knowing You’re always with us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
This week, whether you’re celebrating a victory or dealing with a setback, pause and thank God. Trust Him in every moment, knowing He is greater than the ups and downs.
